Today on Day 6 of my 29 Days of Thanksgiving, I'm thankful for Health. I've talked a bit about Paleo/Primal eating on here before, but what I want to emphasize is that this is not a diet in the sense of "I want to lose some weight", but a diet in the original meaning from the Greek word, "Diaita"- a manner of living. I put on most of my extra weight at an early age for reasons I won't go into here. As I got older, I knew that I had to do something about that weight and tried different things, but none with lasting results. Mainly, I knew that those diets were not things that could be continued for the rest of my life, but I also knew that there had to be an answer beyond eating the chemical, fake foods offered up as "low-fat, low-sugar", etc. I've been pretty conscientious for a while about limiting the amount of chemical laden, fake food that I consume, but with my introduction to the Paleo lifestyle I found an overall way of thinking about food that just clicked and resonated with me. Now again, let me say that I don't agree with their thought process of "Eat like our ancestors did one million years ago." What I would say is, "If God made it, it's good for you." Now obviously, if you have allergies, that changes certain things, but overall, it's an excellent principle. Did God make that low-fat, low- sugar yogurt filled with ingredients that you can't even pronounce? Nope. If God made the ingredients in that yogurt, then go right ahead. But if man made them, then you're believing that man has bettered what God provided for you. Something to think about, right? Ok, I'm going to step off my soap box now before I offend every last one of you reading this. I've heard other people talk about losing weight by "starvation", or eating cabbage soup and lettuce, or something like that. Again, remember, it's about a way of life, not a temporary solution. So, I thought I'd start with a few pictures of normal meals for me.

hamburger salad
thai pumpkin beef curry
hamburger with avocado on a portobella "bun" with sweet potato fries
buffalo chicken salad
Taken in April a few wks. before I started Paleo
Taken today, 11/7, on the 1st day of my 7th month of eating Paleo. I've lost 34 lbs. and am now riding 18 miles a day, 6 days a wk.
So today, on Day 6 of 29 Days of Thankfulness, I'm thankful for:
-my health
-the huge change I've seen in my allergies since cutting gluten and dairy from my diet
-the time to get out and enjoy God's amazing creation
-being able to watch my body change
-not starving in the process! =-D All of the protein properly fuels me
-dark chocolate covered almonds. Mmmm
-almost NEVER having cravings of any kind anymore
-the time I was given this year which allowed me to implement this change
-Janelle, who first introduced me to Paleo
