Today's post is about Debriefing. What is a debriefing?? I've been asked that over and over, especially as I talk about how important I believe a GOOD one is. Let me reiterate- a GOOD debriefing is invaluable to a missionary. A bad one? Well, from all that I've heard, a bad one contributes to a hurt person returning to his "home" country, where very few people "get" him anymore- and continuing on down that path of hurt and brokenness and bitterness and anger, etc., etc. Now, I also need to say that not every missionary returns home hurt. Some have had good experiences, some are simply transitioning, and others have long since worked through any issues they might have had. A GOOD debriefing allows a person to talk out the good, the bad, and the ugly of his story, but in a focused way that points the person forward in life and his relationship with God. This may be the only opportunity that he gets to share in detail with someone who understands, the many things that are on his heart.

Remember this little guy? The assignment: draw your feelings about your current transition situation

-a safe environment to discuss heavy matters
-listening ears
-my great personal counselor there, Connie
