Day 2- Portland

Today I'm thankful for my second trip to Portland. I went to Portland back in May, after having been invited for years by a friend from my favorite quartet in college. After all the planning, he ended up getting sent to China for work on the exact dates that we had planned for me to be there. So I spent the time with another friend I hadn't seen in years. Then, knowing that I'd be returning to the training center in Montana, we decided to try again. It turns out to be cheaper for me to fly one way to Spokane, WA, one way to Portland, and then one way to Charlotte- than it is for me to fly round trip to Spokane from Charlotte and back. It's a crazy little loophole that has enabled me to spend a couple of nice weekends visiting friends. Not too shabby. This time, thankfully, it worked out. Derek and I hadn't seen each other in ten years, and it was slightly strange(but fun) getting to see him again. He got married a year ago, so I enjoyed meeting and getting to know his wife, as well. It was a super quick trip(Fri. evening through Sun. morning), but we packed a lot in, including a steep hike up to a beautiful lookout. Portland's a really beautiful, fun city and I'm thankful to have had the opportunity twice now to visit and catch up with old friends.
