6/5-6/6, Hohe Wand Naturpark & Rax Alps

Saturday Chris and Siegfried took me to the Hohe Wand Naturpark, which was on a mountain range about an hour away from Baden.

We started the afternoon by feeding a bunch of "wild" deer(they live wild, but are used to people feeding them at the viewpoints) leftover bread and cornflakes. I felt kind of guilty feeding them the chocolate ones, but they didn't seem to mind.

We walked around for a while and then drove to the different scenic overlooks.

Our final destination of the day was at the top of the mountain, where we stopped for dinner at Herrgottschnitzerhaus, which has been there for 100 years. We sat outside on the deck and this was the view that we had, looking down over this little village.

My favorite meal while I was there: bratwurst and mustard with sauerkraut- fantastic! I am not a big fan of meat( as many of you know), but I absolutely loved the bratwurst there.

Sunday morning we headed out, along with their son Christian and his girlfriend, to go to the Rax Alps, which are about an hour in the other direction. They wanted to show me a beautiful American style garden and gift shop, so we stopped there and had lunch at the base of the mountain. This is my host, Siegfried.

We rode a a cable car 4 kilometres up to the top of this mountain and enjoyed some cappuccino, Linzer torte and the amazing view.

This is a shot from the bottom of the mountain range: the Rax Alps. Two more incredibly beautiful days in Austria.
