Knowing my fascination with toilets, this is what my parents greeted me with upon my return from Poland and Ukraine: my very own outdoor toilet!
Actually.....this toilet being outside is a very sad thing, indeed. This was the remaining original toilet in my family's 1927 home. It's a beautiful piece of ceramic- toilet artistry at its finest. Sadly, it was leaking from every orifice and no matter what the plumbers tried, it refused to keep water inside of itself or its pipes and instead, slowly leaked down, ruining the ceiling below it a couple of times. Sadness. I'm still extremely bummed to see the modern imposter standing in its place and feel like I'm betraying the old grand dame every time I grab a magazine and have a seat. She served well and was an often overlooked part of this family. May she rest in peace and perhaps even have a second life as a flower planter.....or a bird bath.....or a gold fish bowl. Oh, the possibilities abound.

Well, we held onto it as long as we could... taping, rigging, keeping our fingers crossed. And... she finally gave up the ghost. It is sad to see her go, but I'm hoping the new one doesn't leak for awhile and my kitchen ceiling gets fixed and looks like it's supposed to look!!
