I was reading this morning in "The Music of His Promises," by Elisabeth Elliot, and paused to think about this small entry entitled, "Gifts We Never Thought of Asking For." In it she says,
"If God granted us only what we asked for we would be dead in a second. Our very breath is an unasked for gift of grace."
I've been keeping a Thankfulness List on here since last Fall, but this made me stop and think beyond the obvious to things that perhaps I've never thanked Him for.
I'm thankful for:
111. the ability to talk, smell, breathe, see, touch and taste, walk, sit down, touch my toes, wiggle my nose, curl my tongue;
112. being able to sing, play multiple instruments well, make beautiful music that thrills my soul and brings joy to others;
113. an incredibly complex body with muscles, tendons, organs that all function together in harmony;
114. the color of my skin, my unusual hair and for the freckles that my childhood Dr. said were the only thing that detracted from my perfect skin;
115. a reasoning and fairly logical mind
116. the strange abilities and sense of humor that God gave me that make me who I am;
117. being born in an age where women can read and write;
118. being given a conscience in the form of the Holy Spirit, who "breathes into my nostrils the breath of life and illumines my mind to understand and strengthens my heart to obey."
Did I ask for all those things??

I haven't even heard of that book! I thought that I had read most of hers.
I've been working my way through all of her books and got a few more for Christmas. I made a list of all her works a couple of years ago and have been ordering them bit by bit. Soon, I'll have all of them!
