A new daily routine
So after going through a painful two week period of dealing with parasites inside of me, I have a new addition to my daily routine: boiling water. You know, I really thought that you only still had to do that in third world countries. Obviously I was wrong. But I suppose that in some ways this country still has some of those third world tendencies. Though I was already using a water filter and would certainly never drink the water straight from the tap, I made the mistake of not going a step past using a filter. And now that I'm thoroughly educated on the sources of, medications for, and ways to prevent parasites, I now know that there is an additional step necessary if you don't want to purchase all of your drinking water: boil it. If you boil the water for at least a minute and preferably longer, the parasites are killed. So every day, usually twice a day, I boil my water, let it cool and then pour it into my filter pitcher. The filter then hopefully catches all of the other impurities that the boiling doesn't effect, such as the iron and calcium deposits that are left at the bottom of the pot. It's just another interesting part of living here to which I'm becoming accustomed.
