The following came from a little booklet called, "You know you're an MK when.." and has kept me laughing as I flip through it. Many of the ones in the book don't apply to me, but so many others do and I thought I would share.
You Know You're A Missionary When.....
-your life story uses the phrase, "Then I went to...." at least 5x
-you sort your friends on facebook by country or continent
-the nationals say, "Oh, I knew an American once..", then ask if you know him
-you are grateful for the speed, efficiency and honesty of the US postal system
-you realize that furlough is not a vacation
-you wince when people mispronounce foreign words
-furlough means that you're stuffed every night and gain 10 pds. while home
-you realize that it really is a small world after all
-you never take "basic necessities" for granted
-you know how to pack
-there's always room for at least one more person in the car or bus
-you marvel at the cleanliness of gas station bathrooms
-you automatically take off your shoes when you get home
-you don't know whether to write the date as month/day/year, day/month/year, or some variation thereof
-you tell time using a 24 hour clock
-you wake up one day and realize that you're not a foreigner anymore
-when traveling around the world, you feel comfortable in other countries, even though you haven't lived there
-you wash ziplock bags for future use
-you dream in a foreign language
-you still hesitate before drinking water from the tap
-you never know what to say when asked for a "permanent address"
-you know a smattering of several foreign langauages and can't express yourself 100% in any of them
-you carry Bibles in two languages to church
-you're amazed at how empty US city buses are
-you know not to joke around at border crossings
