Sun. Evening Post, 6/12

Well, it was another busy week with lots going on. Google blogs seems to be conspiring against me and not allowing me to post this. I've been trying for 24 hours and if this doesn't work, I'm probably going to give up.
Beach season opened up for me on Monday with the World Racers. Anyone who knows me well will know that's a bit tongue in cheek, since I normally try to avoid the sun like it's the plague. That was followed by Mexican night at my apartment with chicken fajitas, Spanish rice, guacamole and chips and salsa. They surprised me by showing up with a birthday card(posted below), a cake, flowers and a couple of other things. It was a great early birthday party since they were leaving on my actual birthday to go out to a village a couple of hours from here, and the evening of my birthday was a going away party for my roommate, Laura, who moved back to the US on Friday. We tried to do some last minute things, like go out for coffee, finish the season of Survivor that we were watching together, and just try to be an encouragement to her, in general. The Huffman family is also leaving to go back to the States for a year, so I spent some time helping Kim pack up the kitchen. It was good to have a little bit more time with her before they all leave. My other roommate's parents and brother have been here for the last two weeks, so it seems like things are a lot busier than normal, simply because there are more people in and out of the apartment. I had the pleasure Friday of getting to meet for a couple of hours with one of the girls who just finished her internship wit hthe other IM team here in Odessa. It was great to hear about all that she's been doing and what God is doing in her and through her.

I received a surprise phone call Wed. evening as I was taking the bus home from Laura's going away party. Thanks, you two(who shall go unnamed), for giving me a great end to my birthday!
I'm leaving this coming Tuesday to go to Budapest, Hungary, to renew my visa, so most likely there will be no update next weekend. I'll post in a couple of weeks with lots of pictures from Budapest!

Homemade salsa and chips. Yes, we have to make the chips, as well
Birthday cake that the World Racers brought with the only candle that they could find
The card that the World Racers picked out for me: "To daughter." Inside it reads:
"You're always loved at first glance.
May your way in this life be so that you overcome all obstacles.
There's plenty of time in life to be brilliantly oustanding.
We wish you happiness, success, love and interesting discoveries.!"
ah, the fun of having people who can't read Russian pick out a card. =-D
With my roommates on my birthday
The handmade pottery they gave me. The potter is a kind of crazy looking guy who sells his work in the center square.
A new flavor of potato chips- fish steak. Mmm
