My mentor

Mentor: a trusted counselor or guide

I have a mentor whom I've never met. I've seen her once in my life, about thirteen years ago, along with several other thousand girls. At that point in my life, I was rather annoyed that I had to go to another session and listen to another speaker. blah blah blah blah blah. Thirteen years later, I wish that I remembered more than just being able to see her up on the stage. I wish that I had understood her wisdom, experience and walk with God. I wish that I had seen her for what she is: a truly wonderful example of a life lived for God.

I've had a very close relationship with my mentor for the last seven months. Every morning I start my day soaking in the wisdom of this godly woman. I've been encouraged, strengthened, rebuked, challenged and edified by her. I long to know her better and learn from the depths of her spiritual knowledge.

People have asked me where I get the quotes, poems and prayers of which I'm so fond. My mentor, of course! I'm slowly working my way through her large output of writings. Each and every one has blessed me in one way or the other. The following is a list of her writings that I would highly recommend:

*Discipline: the glad surrender
*Let me be a woman
*Passion and Purity
*The mark of a man
*God's guidance: a clear and certain light
*On asking God why
*Keep a quiet heart
*Secure in the everlasting arms
*A chance to die: the life and legacy of Amy Carmichael

You got to hear her speak? I wish I could say that! (We have the same mentor, by the way. :-)

Oh, I forgot to say, last year, when we were going through our really tough times, I read through all the old newsletters on her web site. They are excellent!

Yes, but what good does that do, when I obviously wasn't listening? =-) She was one of the speakers at a national ATIA conference one year.

I loved the book that you gave me (Let Me Be a Woman). I remember my mom giving it to me to read when I was a teen-ager. It didn't really make much sense to me then...but now, it definitely spoke to me and had much wisdom for me to glean from.
