Pinnacle

Saturday was the annual AWANA State level games and bible quizzing for the JV and Varsity groups, and boy, did we have a great day! GBC uses the AWANA program all the way from the Cubbies(2&3 yr. olds.) up through the Varsity(high-schoolers) and are one of the few churches in our States to still use the entire program(most quit at the high school level to do a more typical youth group).

We didn't have enough JV'ers to do games, but four out of our regular five committed to bible quizzing, which is a huge time commitment. Their hand book is divided into four sections and they must memorize word perfect all verses and definitions, as well as tons of history, general information, and other random facts. The quizzing is in two rounds, with 36 questions in each round, composed of both multiple choice answers and speed questions. Our little JV group was like the "Little Engine That Could." They didn't miss a single multiple choice question and hit the buzzer for the speed questions far more than any other team. Sadly, they buzzed in and got multiple answers wrong, leaving them 120 points negative at the break. But, like that little engine, they didn't let that scare them! They kept hitting that buzzer and getting in first, and started answering those questions correctly, and got all the way from fifth place at the break, to tying for 1st place! In the quiz off, they ended up getting 2nd place, but we were SO proud of them! It was fun to see how excited they were, and to see their enthusiasm for doing it again next year. Though we're always happy to see our kids do well in the games, we're most proud of them for wanting to hide God's Word in their hearts!

At the end of the day, GBC ended up with 2nd place in JV bible quizzing, 1st place in Varsity bible quizzing, and 1st place in Varsity games. So proud of our GBC kids! The Varsity kids are on their way to the national AWANA SUMMIT this coming weekend, where they've done amazingly in the past in both games and quizzing, and we're excited to see how they'll do this time!
