Summer busyness

Wow, I really let time go by since the last time that I wrote. A lot has gone on here since I returned from Austria: planning the girl's retreat, preparing for my teaching time during the retreat, hosting a team that is here with the group Adventures in Missions, finding out that I had to move(I'll write more about that later), doing the girl's retreat, beginning camp preparations, packing to move, plus all of the normal weekly events. I've kind of felt like I've been running around like a chicken with my head cut off. Some things have been really great and others, not so good. Having the AIM group here has been a real blessing to me, in spite of the extra work. They have encouraged me in so many ways and I'm going to be sad to see them leave tomorrow evening. The following are just a few pictures from the events of the last three weeks.

Taking the AIM group on a tour of the center of Odessa. This is Daniel, their leader from Dallas.

A HUGE ship. We contemplated trying to walk on, but decided against it.

Dinner and game night at the AIM base, with our students and some of our staff. Here you have my co-workers, Mark & Kim Huffman and their three sons with Dan and Nate from AIM.

Girl's Retreat: went fairly well for our first attempt. The girls had no clue what a retreat was and were very skeptical. Some of their attitudes reflected that scepticism throughout the time, but overall, everyone really enjoyed it. We're thankful for some great times of learning more about our amazing Savior and also the chance to grow closer to these girls. This is a night at the beach, reflecting on the beauty of God's handiwork.

We had some really fun activities during the retreat, including Crazy Bowling. This is Dasha attempting to bowl with an oven mitt and thick wool glove on her hands. It doesn't work so well.

4th of July picnic. Nothing can replace being in the US on the 4th, but it was a lot of fun. We played a frozen t-shirt game, egg-toss, three legged race, Chubby Bunny, frisbee, volleyball(of sorts) and various card games. It was great to see some of the people from our Saturday English club and past English camps come out to spend the afternoon with us.

S'mores(minus the chocolate) with three of the AIM girls: Andrea, Brittany and Ashley.

Ksusha(one of the students from our church) plays Chubby Bunny for the first time.
